' Despite a wicket with the first ball, the rest of the game fell away from us against a strong Warwickshire side. Dropped catches could have seen them at 45 for 3 after 14 overs but both Mushtaq and Winspieare capitalised and added 91 before they were separated when Mushtaq came down the wicket to Dawes and was promptly stumped by Davis.Winspieare was particularly strong of his legs hitting straight and his 99 ball 77 included 7 well struck boundaries. But 'new boy' to the Warwickshire side this year, Rogers, made a 105 not out from just 84 balls and contributed heavily to an unbeaten 80 run stand for the 4th wicket made in just 10 overs of which Oakes contributed 24 from 25 balls. In general the Gloucestershire bowling and fielding was below par although Norbury with 1 for 23 from 9 overs was as ever disciplined with his line and length. This game represented a clash between this divisions unbeaten top two teams however
Gloucestershire were going to have to bat very well to win chasing 253 for victory. It never happened. Losing Daniels to the first ball from veteran county quickie Earl Harris their innings was plunged into disarray when both Johnson and Clifton fell in quick succession to Burbridge. That made the score 4 for 3 and the wicket was not going to get any better. The toss had clearly been a crucial factor to the games outcome and when Dawes went for just 6 Gloucestershire were struggling at 14 for 5.
Tugwell joined Evans in the innings only major stand of 51 but the loss of Evans for 18 was made all the worse when Thorn went for a duck and a 66 for 6 scorline reflected the changing fortunes of the wicket as even the slow Warwickshire bowlers - Nason in particular - began to get exagerated turn and head high bounce! Tugwell top scored with a valiant 35 made from 67balls. The last 3 wickets added 43 with skipper Clarke making 34 but a scoreline of 121 all out leaves Gloucestershire knowing that they have it all to do against Wales at Gloucester City's ground next week if they are to make it into the Championship finals. All of the Warwickshire bowlers finished with economical figures but it was Burbridge with 3 for 11 off 7 overs who did the damage with the fire power of Harris always threatening. '
