GYC U 12 managers report 2005. This is the report and awards presentation for the U 12 squad on behalf of Alan Daughtrey ( coach ) and myself, for the season which all started with a trip to Exmouth to play Devon on 1st June. On the approaches to Exmouth at about 9 am the rain started and by the time we arrived at the ground it was heavier and remained so all morning. By 12.30 the rain had gone, we started playing by 1.20 and we didn’t see a drop of rain again all summer. Our results were played 9, none were drawn or abandoned and we won 3. For the first time we introduced 6 summer training sessions (followed by lunch), which helped with team bonding, certainly brought out the character in the players and was a huge success. It also meant parents could get to know the coaches as well as each other and have a relaxing day out. I think it is true to say we saw a fair bit of the English countryside this season and some more than others. We would like to say a big thank you to the parents for their support of the boys and the respect shown to the coaches. Memorable comment of the year was at Wiltshire. We batted first amassing a significant score despite sledging from the hosts, during which one player said ‘ come on boys, I’ve seen a better swing on a rusty gate’. That fielder was one of the 6 Wiltshire players who scored a duck on the day, which perhaps proves the point that it’s better to concentrate on your game not on the witty comments to distract the opposition. Memorable performances :- Chris O’Farrell 3 wkts for 10 runs in 10 overs against Wilts. 4 wkts for 21 runs in 8 overs against Hereford. Isaac Reid 50 against Hereford. Jake Flower 29 * against Hampshire in 30 overs holding the team together then keeping wkt for 42 overs on a very very hot day. Andrew Daughtrey 3 wkts for 26 runs in 7 overs against Somerset. Adam Ireland 3 wkts for 17 runs in 6 overs against Dorset. Amit Patel 3 wkts for 22 runs in 10 overs against Dorset. At this point we would like to thank Amit for joining the squad late in the season. We would also like to wish all the squad the very best for the future and hope they will look back on this season as the year that got them up and running. Our batsman of the year:- Our top order batsmen were hugely disappointing and finished mainly at the bottom of the averages. After much discussion we feel that one individual gave himself and the team a tremendous boost with his commitment to work at his game, addressing his batting in both attack and defence. He shows huge promise and loves the game. If we had an award for character of the year he would certainly receive it. Performances at club and county level, with his 39 at Cornwall on Sunday helping us make this decision. Our batsman of the year based on improvement, promise and commitment is Jack Baber. Our bowler of the year:- Our bowler of the year is a young man who we believe is going from strength to strength. Keen, committed, willing to learn, with a smooth and improving run up and delivery. Season figures of 37 overs 8 for 94, economy rate 2.55. Our bowler of the year is Richard Woodmason. Our all rounder of the year:- Our all rounder of the year is a young man who really works at his game. A safe pair of hands, top catcher with 6, bowls wkt to wkt figures of 58 overs 11 for 147 economy rate 2.5, has had some good batting moments scoring in excess of a 100 runs in the middle order. Took the mantle of team captain and I’m sure had some interesting one-way conversations in the car on the way home from games. An unassuming but gutsy determined character, who I believe will develop into a very interesting cricketer. Deserves this award without doubt. Our all rounder of the year is Andrew Daughtrey. Robin Fidoe Manager Gloucs C C C U 12 squad. 1st Sept 2005.
